Why have dental implants?

27th November 2015

Losing one or more teeth is distressing; here, we examine dental implants, one of the best ways to restore your smile.

We see many patients at our Leicester dental practice who have lost teeth. Often, they have lost confidence in their smile, and depending on how many teeth are missing may also have trouble enjoying their favourite foods.

As dentists we have many tooth replacement options at our disposal, but only one way of permanently replacing missing teeth: dental implants.

What are dental implants?

Implants are small metal screws placed directly in the jaw bone, where they bond with the bone and act as artificial tooth roots. Your dentist will then attach restorations (false teeth) to them, which may be a crown, a bridge or dentures, depending on your needs.

What are the benefits?

Dentists agree that missing teeth should always be replaced. One obvious benefit is that it improves the appearance of your smile, but at our Leicester dental practice we are keen to stress other benefits, too:

Dental implants integrate with the bone, helping to prevent bone loss and facial sagging

Both implants and attached restorations look and act like natural teeth, and are permanent

You are able to enjoy a full, healthy diet and are not restricted to a soft food diet

If you lose teeth, other teeth may move into any gaps, becoming crooked and harder to clean

No more struggling with loose, uncomfortable dentures

With proper care and regular visits to your dentist, dental implants will last you many years

If you are interested in using dental implants to restore your smile, why not book an appointment at our Leicester practice for an initial implant consultation? We’ll assess your suitability and discuss your options for implant treatment.
